The University Café is available for a variety of programs including the Sunday Acoustic Series, late evening entertainment programs, and campus department gatherings. Schedules for these events are announced on the University Café website. Events that require tickets can be purchased online at ShopSBU.com.

Monday nights, the University Café host events such as the Rock Yo Face Showcase for the Under 21 crowd.

As of December 1st, 2006 the University Café is no longer financially supported or operated by the Graduate Student Organization. However, its current location was developed, funded, and supported by a number of University departments and groups including the Faculty Student Association, the Dean of the Graduate School, the University Senate Committee on Student Life, the Office of the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Vice President for Administration, the Office of the Dean of Medicine, the Graduate Student Organization, Campus Dining Services, and individual faculty members. A responsibly managed venue serving a large percentage of the campus population aged 21 and over, including all graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, staff, and alumni continues to be a desirable asset to the University community. Unlike off-campus pubs that operate based on profitability from the sale of alcohol, the continuing support for University Café is based on its ability to provide a comfortable venue that promotes social interactions among our diverse campus constituencies. It is, however, expected that the University Café will not incur significant financial losses that would drain important resources from campus programs and activities central to the University's educational mission.
